Golf Gear Market in Japan: Key Research Findings 2025
Domestic Golf Gear Market Estimated at 293.33 Billion Yen in 2024, or 95.0% of Previous Year, But Forecast to Increase by 5.5% in 2025
Yano Research Institute (the President, Takashi Mizukoshi) conducted a survey of the golf gear (equipment) market and revealed the market trend, trends of leading companies, and outlook.
Market Overview
Based on manufacturer sales, the domestic golf gear market was estimated at 293.33 billion yen in 2024, representing 95.0% of the previous year’s size. Landing below 300 billion yen indicates the waning impact of the golf boom that occurred during the pandemic, when people sought outdoor activities. This boom significantly benefited the entire Japanese golf market, which surpassed 300 billion yen in 2022.
Noteworthy Topics
Comparing the Current Japanese Golf Market with That of Pre-Covid 2019
Year-on-year growth is certainly an important indicator for the Japanese golf gear market, which enjoyed advantages from the pandemic-era boom. However, quantitatively comparing the current market environment and size with those in 2019, just before the pandemic broke out, is more important to figure out the current market conditions.
The golf gear market in 2024 is 10.6% larger than in 2019. However, compared to the 2023 market, which was 16.4% larger than in 2019, growth has slowed. This decline indicates the waning impact of the pandemic golf boom.
As stated in the previous press release*, market conditions in 2023 were described as follows: "2023 was a milestone year for the golf gear market because it was the first year of decline since golf boomed during the pandemic, but the aftereffects still linger."
The 2024 market is about 10% larger than in 2019. This can be viewed as the lingering impact of the boom. It also indicates the consumption of the boom's legacy without specific growth measures being taken.

Future Outlook
Based on manufacturer sales, the domestic golf gear market is expected to grow by 5.5% year on year, reaching 309.35 billion yen by 2025. The market outlook is positive, as indicated by golf gear manufacturers' responses to a sales survey. These responses suggest a return to 300 billion yen after two consecutive years of negative growth in 2023 and 2024.
