Summary of Research Findings

A corporate questionnaire was carried out to 79 domestic major companies that undertake installation works of HVAC and plumbing/sanitary systems between August and October 2023. Here are some of our analyses from the aggregation of total sales of HVAC and plumbing/sanitary system installations from FY2018 to FY2022 at 63 companies that responded to the questionnaire.

The sales of HVAC and plumbing/sanitary installation works for FY2022 (as a total of sales at 63 companies that responded to the questionnaire) attained 1,092,700 million yen, which is 107.2% of the size of that in the previous fiscal year. An increase in the sales value of construction works has seemingly contributed to the sales growth, which was driven by the resumption of COVID-deferred construction projects in FY2021 and the materialization of rise in demand for large-scale new construction works, such as redevelopment projects.

Noteworthy Topics

Addressing Labor Shortage

Although demand environment is recovering, the contractors are still faced with a chronic labor shortage. As a result, trends are seen among the businesses to promote digital transformation (DX) and incorporate new technologies like robotics to reduce the workload of onsite staffs. Going forward, HVAC and plumbing/sanitary system contractors are required to streamline procedures and boost operational efficiency to be less dependent on manpower.
