Wedding Market in Japan: Key Research Findings 2026
The Wedding Market (A Total of Five Segments) Projected to Reach 1.5786 Trillion Yen in 2025, 99.9% of the Preceding Year’s Size
Yano Research Institute (the President, Takashi Mizukoshi) conducted a survey on the domestic wedding market. The survey revealed trends in market segments, the activities of market players, and the market outlook.
Market Overview
Based on sales from businesses, the wedding market, which comprises five segments, is projected to reach 1.5786 trillion yen in 2025, which is 99.9% of the previous year’s size.
This decline stems from a slight contraction in the largest segment of the market: wedding ceremonies and receptions. This contraction is due to slower growth in the number of ceremonies conducted and lower attendance. Conversely, the bridal jewelry segment is expected to grow due to rising material and labor costs driving up product prices. The marriage agency and matchmaking service segment encourages couples to marry, which drives the market toward gradual growth. However, its contribution to market growth has been somewhat limited.
Future Outlook
The total wedding market, consisting of five segments, is expected to reach 1.5700 trillion yen, 99.5% of the previous year’s size.
The core segment, i.e., wedding ceremonies and receptions, can expect increased spending per couple, as major or growing providers offer value-added products and newly constructed or refurbished venues. However, this segment faces issues in Japanese society, such as population outflows in some regions. Wedding businesses are more sluggish in areas with severe outflows of young people. Casual, low-cost wedding ceremonies, including photo weddings, a style in which a couple simply takes photos in their wedding attire, may become more prevalent.
