Hospital Equipment and Supplies Market in Japan: Key Research Findings 2025
Domestic Hospital Equipment and Supplies Market Rose by 2.7% on YoY to 207.9553 Billion Yen in FY2024
Yano Research Institute (the President, Takashi Mizukoshi) conducted a survey of the hospital equipment and supplies market in Japan and found out the market size transition and forecast, the trends by product type and by function, and the influence affected by new product releases.
Market Overview
This research covers 27 products in 14 categories of hospital equipment and supplies that are not directly involved in diagnosis or medical treatment. These items include medical information systems (e.g., electronic medical records (EMRs)), central sterile services department (CSSD) equipment (e.g., washer-disinfectors and autoclaves), operating room equipment (e.g., surgical lights, headlight systems, ceiling pendant lights, operating tables, and perioperative hand hygiene systems), dose dispensers (e.g., pharmaceutical packaging machines, and drug package printers), and other hospital ward equipment and devices (e.g., air sterilizers, stretchers, automated visitor reception systems, and automated billing systems).
The hospital equipment and supply market was estimated at 207.9553 billion yen in FY2024, marking a 2.7% increase from the previous fiscal year. Despite lower demand for rebuilding due to soaring material costs and minimal improvement in hospital revenues, causing sluggish sales, particularly of large-scale equipment such as sterilizers, the market grew overall due to market trends for each product type.
Noteworthy Topics
Shortages of doctors and medical workers, deteriorating hospital revenues, and rising material costs require hospitals to increase their operational efficiency. In a questionnaire conducted for this research from May to June 2025 among 237 hospitals nationwide that have 50 or more beds and an operation room, there were responses saying, “always suffering from labor shortages” and “new workers quit easily.”
Selling equipment is generally difficult under stringent management. However, some manufacturers are performing well in a market that continues to level off or gradually decline. If hospitals are convinced of the benefits of the equipment, such as reducing medical workers’ workloads or improving the work environment, they are likely to purchase it, even if it is expensive.
