WHATS Seminar [Online] Vol. 267
“Current Trends and Outlook for Japan’s Car Rental and Car-Sharing Markets”
— Wednesday, September 16, 2026 | 4:00P M–5:00 PM (JST)

[Seminar Overview]

  • 4:00 PM – 4:50 PM

The number of rental vehicles in Japan reached an all-time high as of the end of March 2025, supported by the steady recovery in tourism demand, continued efforts by companies to optimize their corporate vehicle fleets, and growing demand from international visitors. In recent years, the use of rental cars for everyday purposes has also begun to gain traction.

The car-sharing market has likewise reached record highs across key indicators as of the same date, benefiting from a shift in consumer preferences from vehicle ownership to access and use. However, as service providers rapidly expand their operations, revenue and profit per vehicle have shown signs of weakening.

This seminar will provide an overview of current trends and the outlook for Japan’s car rental and car-sharing markets.

Topics:

  1. External factors affecting the markets
  2. Trends in the car rental market
  3. Trends in the car-sharing market
  4. Market size and future outlook
