WHATS Seminar Vol. 253 [Online] “Current Status and Outlook for the Social Implementation of Ceramic 3D Printing”

WHATS Seminar Vol. 253 [Online] titled above will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026

[Seminar Overview]

  • 1:00 PM – 1:50 PM

Current Status and Outlook for the Social Implementation of Ceramic 3D Printing

3D printing technology has advanced primarily with polymer and metal materials, and is now beginning to expand into ceramic materials.

Ceramic products are already widely used across various industries—including medical, electronics, and energy—and Japan currently holds a leading global position in the ceramics industry. This strength is supported by high-quality materials and highly refined manufacturing technologies, which together have established a solid industrial foundation.

In recent years, 3D printing has emerged as a new manufacturing technology. By actively incorporating three-dimensional structures to enhance ceramic product performance and by combining ceramics with functional materials, new developments—such as novel device creation—are emerging. As a result, 3D printers are increasingly expected to serve not only as tools for prototyping and mass production, but also as “innovation platforms” that support new ceramic products and business models driven by user innovation.

In this seminar, we will compare conventional manufacturing methods with 3D printing approaches. We will introduce one of the key additive manufacturing methods— Stereolithography  (slurry molding)—and discuss the advantages of our company’s 3D printers, materials, and process technologies. We will also cover the benefits of 3D structures, case studies and ongoing initiatives in Japan toward practical implementation in society, and the future outlook for the ceramic 3D printing business.
