Handling Copyrighted Materials and Effective Use of Images

Kyodo News Images Inc. was established in 2014 as a spin-off from a division of Kyodo News, entering the stock photo business. The company manages a collection of over 26 million images, including press photos taken by Kyodo News over the past 80 years, as well as images provided by domestic and international partners.

We primarily handle licensing requests for non-news uses of our images from a wide range of sectors, including corporations, educational institutions, and local governments. In this session, we will explain how we determine whether to grant image usage permissions, which may serve as a reference for those hesitant to use copyrighted images. We will also discuss how to make better use of image assets that are often stored away in folders and left unused.

• Specializes in providing press photo solutions and licensing support, mainly for educational clients (universities, high schools, textbook and educational material publishers)
• Has delivered over 30 guest lectures on copyright at elementary, junior high, and high schools across Japan, based on his extensive experience in image licensing
