WHATS Seminar Vol. 247 [Online] titled above will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026

[Seminar Overview]

  • 1:00 PM – 1:50 PM

Challenges Surrounding Renewable Energy and UPDATER’s Solutions

In recent years, the environment surrounding renewable energy in Japan has entered a period of significant change. This shift is symbolized by issues such as the controversy over large-scale solar power projects in the Kushiro Wetlands (Kushiro Shitsugen), as well as the withdrawal of major corporations from wind power generation projects.
Renewable energy now stands at a clear turning point, facing challenges including friction with local communities, impacts on the natural environment, and questions regarding long-term business sustainability.

In this seminar, against the backdrop of these growing headwinds, we will introduce concrete initiatives that UPDATER has been implementing, presented through real-world case studies:

  1. Development of solar power plants designed to coexist with local communities and the natural environment
  2. Mechanisms for creating new value through collaboration with corporate partners
  3. An original scheme that offers premium purchase prices for environmentally and socially responsible power generation facilities
  4. Initiatives to promote the reuse of solar panels in response to the issue of large-scale panel disposal

Speaker:
Yasuhiro Kamimura, General Manager, Minna Power Dept, Climate Tech Div, UPDATER, Inc.

After graduating from university, Mr. Uemura began his career working in Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects supporting developing countries, including an assignment in Sri Lanka. Through this experience, he became convinced that addressing global environmental challenges requires a transition to green energy, and transitioned to the renewable energy sector.

He spent approximately ten years engaged in the construction, maintenance, and operation (O&M) of solar power plants across Japan. Drawn by UPDATER’s concept of “transparent and traceable electricity,” which allows consumers to see and choose the power plants they support, he joined the company in October 2023. He currently serves as the leader of the “10 Coexisting Renewable Energy Projects.”
