WHATS Seminar Vol. 237 [Online] “Achieving High-Sensitivity Palm-Sized POCT with Electrochemical Immunoassay “GLEIA”: Technological Innovation and Future Prospects for Social Implementation”

WHATS Seminar Vol. 237 [Online] titled above will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025

[Seminar Overview]

  • 4:00 PM – 4:50 PM

Achieving High-Sensitivity Palm-Sized POCT with Electrochemical Immunoassay “GLEIA”: Technological Innovation and Future Prospects for Social Implementation

In the field of immunoassays, conventional methods such as ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) and immunochromatography (lateral flow immunoassay) have long been widely used. However, both methods face limitations in terms of sensitivity, measurement time, and instrument size.

“GLEIA (Gold-Linked Electrochemical Immunoassay),” an electrochemical immunoassay technology developed at Osaka University, applies electrochemical detection principles to achieve both the simplicity of lateral flow immunoassays and the high sensitivity comparable to that of large-scale laboratory analyzers.

This session will explain the technological advantages of GLEIA through comparisons with conventional methods and introduce its implementation and potential applications in a compact, palm-sized high-sensitivity testing kit. Furthermore, the session will explore potential applications of GLEIA technology — from pre-symptomatic disease monitoring and disease management to home healthcare, sports, and wellness — and discuss new business models in these expanding fields.

Topics:

  1. Current status and challenges of immunoassays
  2. Principles and advantages of GLEIA technology
  3. Implementation and performance of the palm-sized testing kit
  4. Expanding application areas
  5. From technology to business: New POCT business models enabled by GLEIA
  6. Future R&D and opportunities for collaboration
