WHATS Seminar Vol. 192 [Online] “Trends in the Satellite Communication Service Market and Consideration for the ‘Beyond 5G and 6G’ Era” will be held online on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
[Seminar Overview]
Since the launch of SpaceX’s “Starlink,” services that utilize satellites have been gaining attention. More than 5,000 low earth orbit satellites were launched as of the summer of 2023, and commercial services were deployed in more than 60 countries all over the world. Similar services are also operated in Japan by various operators.
Traditional satellite businesses have been “satellite communication,” “satellite broadcasting,” and “meteorological satellites” provided mainly by geosynchronous equatorial orbit (geostationary orbit / GEO) satellites, and “satellite positioning systems” provided mainly by medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites, which have been developed led by the nations.
Satellite communication services are expected to be utilized for “Beyond 5G and 6G” in the future, and are expected to become new infrastructures to complement existing mobile phone services.
In this seminar, the status of efforts by each business operator, trends of applications where demand is expected to grow, and trends of standardization and technology development will be explained, and at the same time, the direction of communication infrastructures in the “Beyond 5G and 6G” era from 2030 will be discussed.
