Next-Generation Synchrotron Radiation Facility “NanoTerasu”

Synchrotron radiation facilities are “giant microscopes that can see even nano-sized particles,” and are playing the roles of indispensable tools in industry and academia to clearly see the world of nanoscopic objects. Synchrotron radiation, which is produced when electrons travelling at high speed in a ring-shaped accelerator are bent out of direction, is directed to “beamlines” where experimental equipment is installed and utilized for various research and development.

Features of “Nano Terasu” (Scheduled to start operation in 2024)

  • The performance of the light source of NanoTerasu is 100 times higher than that of existing synchrotron radiation facilities in Japan.
  • NanoTerasu is world-class facility in the field of soft X-rays.
  • NanoTerasu is a key part of an innovation ecosystem built on the concept of coalition.
