Global Automotive Display Market: Key Research Findings 2025

According to EV Sales Forecast, Despite Growth in Global Shipment Volume of Automotive Displays in 2024, An Expanded Inventory Expected to Slow Down Growth in 2025

Yano Research Institute (the President, Takashi Mizukoshi) conducted a survey of the global automotive display market and found out the market trends by type, part, inch, the trend of manufacturers, price trends, and future perspectives.

Market Overview

In 2024, global manufacturer shipment volume of automotive displays (i.e., genuine products of AMOLED, mini LED backlight unit, and microLED displays) was estimated at 198.64 million units, which was 109.0% of the previous year’s size. This figure is expected to increase to 206.02 million units in 2025, 103.7% of the size of 2024.
This forecasted slowdown in 2025 is due tothe decline in demand following the surge in 2024. Stalled electric vehicle (EV) sales in China and Europe have increased global automotive display stocks. Due to the impact of Trump tariffs, the global EV sales in 2025 are far from promising. Since the global automotive display market is aligned with the automotive market, the global automotive displays cannot expect enormous growth in 2025.

Noteworthy Topics

PID Began to Be Fully Adopted Primarily in the European Market

A passenger information display (PID) is part of an automotive cockpit module that combines instrument clusters and user interfaces. Some PIDs are located on the front passenger side separate from other cockpit module components. However, an increasing number of PIDs are being included alongside CIDs in cockpit modules featuring a wide screen that extends across the front of the front seat.

In the EU market, PID installations are likely to progress toward near standard specification. However, as of the first half of 2025, there is no legal requirement for their installation. Currently, PID adoption has just begun among luxury automobiles. The expansion of PIDs depends heavily on the adoption of dual-view displays. These displays are LCD screens that use specific shade technology on the surface to show two different images from the left and right angles of the same screen. If dual-view displays are widely adopted, PIDs will become unnecessary.

Future Outlook

Because each vehicle has multiple automotive displays, the volume of displays shipped has consistently exceeded the number of vehicles produced. However, the growth rate of these display shipments is forecast to approach the growth rate of automotive production by 2025 and beyond.
In recent years, automotive displays have grown considerably in size. To reduce component material costs, even medium-sized cars now have cockpit modules with at least two displays, each measuring ten inches or larger, rather than various smaller and medium-sized ones.
While significant market growth beyond 2026 is not expected due to the continuing trend of larger automotive displays reducing the number of displays installed per vehicle, the unit price of these displays is undoubtedly increasing, as they are equipped with various functions and higher performance capabilities.
