CAD/CAM/CAE Systems Market in Japan: Key Research Findings 2018
Yano Research Institute (the President, Takashi Mizukoshi) has conducted a survey on the domestic CAD/CAM/CAE systems market and has found out the sales results by segment/by application, the market share by manufacturer, and the future perspectives and challenges.
The FY2017 domestic CAD/CAM/CAE systems market size rose by 2.9% on a year-over-year basis to achieve 355,000 million yen, based on the shipment values at system manufacturers. Overseas economic recovery has continuously improved export and productions and has led private demand to revive, as can see from improvement of personal spending and also of private equipment investment. Therefore, the environment surrounding the CAD/CAM/CAE systems market was not bad, but the market growth for FY2017 was limited due to decrease in EDA (Electronic Design Automation) and also to shift of business models at large system makers for machinery from license sales to subscriptions.
Large CAD/CAM/CAE system makers for machinery have shifted from a traditional license and maintenance model to a subscription-based model. Such shift in their strategies has slowed down the sales performance at CAD/CAM/CAE system makers temporarily.
If the makers entirely shift their business models to subscription and end their license sales, the profit-making structure at distributors is forced to change completely. As the rate of direct sales at CAD/CAM/CAE system makers increase and adoption of software-as-a-service (SaaS) increases at user companies, the market of distributors is sure to shrink.
