Government to Set Guidelines for Online Veterinary Services for Pets by Year-End: A Breakthrough for Resolving Challenges? The Future of Online Services in Veterinary Care

Six years behind human healthcare, Japan’s government is finally moving forward with guidelines for online veterinary consultations for companion animals. On June 21, 2024, the "Regulatory Reform Implementation Plan," which includes online consultations for pets, was approved by the Cabinet. Key points of this plan include:

  1. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries will establish guidelines to promote the proactive use of online consultations in veterinary care.
  2. In developing these guidelines, existing guidance, such as the "Guidelines for Appropriate Implementation of Online Medical Care" issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, will be referenced.
  3. The guidelines will specify that online consultations may be conducted from the first appointment.
  4. Guidelines will be implemented by the end of fiscal year 2024.

Amid mixed expectations and concerns, online discussions describe this as a 'full-scale rollout of online veterinary consultations for pets,' but what exactly will be possible? And where is this heading? In this seminar, we will share our insights and introduce the potential of online veterinary care, which holds great promise for veterinary professionals and pet owners.

  1. Introduction of mirpet Co., Ltd.
  2. Challenges in the Veterinary Industry
  3. The Present and Future of Online Veterinary Services for Pets
  4. Our Current Initiatives and Vision for the Future of Veterinary Care
