Market Overview

Despite the stable growth until then, the domestic indoor positioning solutions market halted in FY2020, declining marginally by 0.3% from the previous fiscal year to yield 3,180 million yen. It is forecasted to return to growth trajectory in FY2021 to generate 4,130 million yen, up 29.9% from the preceding fiscal year. However, although the market maintained its growth even in the COVID-19 situation, it is slightly losing momentum.
As the impact of the pandemic lessens in FY2021, many providers that specialize in solutions for manufacturing industry expect business performance recovery to pre-pandemic level. Moreover, driven by the spread of free-address workspace due to the workstyle reform in midtown offices, the market anticipates expansion further.

Market Conditions

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is still the most adopted positioning technology. While some companies focus on providing proprietary positioning method, others serve as the system integrator of various positioning methods to suit the needs of users.
Although many providers continue to use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) based positioning systems, it should be noted that the domestic market is still in somewhat chaotic situation where no single technology has become the standard.

Future Outlook

In the outlook, the indoor positioning solutions market is valued at 4,130 million yen for FY2021 and is expected to grow by 20.7% to generate 4,983 million yen by FY2022(based on the sales of businesses). It is also estimated to reach 7,624 million yen by FY2024, with 127.5% growth on year-on-year basis. Nevertheless, the pace of growth during these years is likely to differ marginally by customer segment.
Viewing by segment, the businesses for manufacturing and logistics segment may be slightly sluggish compared to the businesses for general offices. Since providers are still studying alternative technologies, it may take some time for the new technology to take over the position of BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) based technology as a mainstream in the market. In the field of general offices, the market is expected to expand stably for the time being.
