Summary of Research Findings
- Number of Pachinko Operators 3,702 and Number of Parlors 11,292, as of End of December 2014
Number of pachinko operators was 3,702, as of end of December 2014, a decline by 116 companies during the period between the fiscal year ends of 2013 to 2014. Number of groups of pachinko parlors, consolidated by the capital or the same management, became 2,850, down by 93 groups. With number of pachinko parlors operated by those 3,702 companies decreased to 11,292, down by 246 parlors since the fiscal year end of 2013, the parlors together with the operators seem to continue diminishing.
- Number of Pachinko Parlors Newly Opened in 2014: 222
Number of new pachinko parlors that 3,702 of operators opened in 2014 remained at 222, showing slight decline year by year. The location of such newly opened parlors continues to be confined to metropolitan areas. Recent newly-opened parlors tend to be large scale with more than 1,000 game machines.
- On the Contrary to Declining Parlors, Pachinko Machines Show Slight Increase with 4.58 Million Machines as of Year End of 2014
Number of new machines introduced in newly-opened parlors exceeded number of those decreasing machines in closing parlors because newly-opened parlors tend to be large in size and need more machines in number, leading to slight increase of pachinko machines nationwide.
When comparing the numbers of pachinko machines and pachi-slot machines, pachi-slot machines is more in the tendency of rising than pachinko machines, achieving 125.6% of the number in 2010.
