Hair Care Market Size in FY2017 Reached 443,040 Million Yen, Same Level As Previous Fiscal Year
Yano Research Institute (the President, Takashi Mizukoshi) has conducted a survey on the domestic hair care market and has found out the market trends by category, the trends of market players, and the future outlook.
The domestic hair care market size (the total market sizes of hair, hair transplantation, hair-growth & hair-restoration products, and hair-care products) in FY2017 attained 443,040 million yen, 100.0 % on a year-to-year basis, based on the sales at the businesses. While the hair market declined, other markets rose from the previous fiscal-year results. Especially the markets of hair transplantation and hair-growth & hair-restoration products showed favorable sales, respectively.
In the hair market, increasing number of companies entered the business of fashion wigs for women, which led the prices to be on the fall. Also, hair growth services for young people have been popular. In the hair transplantation market, fiercer competition stemming from increase of hair transplantation clinics has brought about decrease in the unit price per customer. Recently, FUE hair transplantation that does not use a surgical knife has been popular. The market of hair-growth & hair-restoration products has been brisk, since the products for doctors have become highly competitive due to release of generic products and since the products for those other than doctors have increased as more companies entering the market. The hair care products market has been vitalized by each maker releasing the products with botanical appeal and by increasing demand of treatment agents that have the effect of repairing damaged hair without the need of rinsing out.
The domestic hair care market is projected to attain 445,400 million yen, 100.5% of the size of the previous fiscal year. The domestic hair care market is likely to grow, though slightly, because of increase in the number of elderly and in the anti-aging demand by consumers.
