Yano Research Institute Signs Memorandum of Understanding with LPPOM to Launch Halal Conformity Assessment Services in Japan
On November 5, 2025, Yano Research Institute Ltd. (President: Takashi Mizukoshi) and LPPOM (formerly LPPOM MUI), Indonesia’s government-recognized halal inspection body (President Director: Muti Arintawati), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Tokyo regarding the development of halal conformity assessment services in Japan.
As part of this initiative, a new organization, LPPOM-YANO Halal Solution, will be established. The organization will provide one-stop halal conformity assessment services for businesses and facilities operating in Japan, in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065:2012, the international standard for bodies certifying products, processes, and services. Through the provision of internationally recognized, high-quality halal conformity assessment services, the organization seeks to contribute to Japan’s economic growth and to the prosperity of the global community surrounding Indonesia.

Business Activities:
Working in close collaboration with LPPOM as the auditing body, the organization will provide comprehensive one-stop support for internationally recognized halal conformity assessment for businesses in Japan. Services include:
- Halal conformity assessment and procedural support aligned with the halal standards of Indonesia and other countries, along with related advisory and consulting services.
- Education and training related to halal certification
- Development of Japanese-language halal technical auditors
- Research on halal markets and regulatory systems
- Business guidance and marketing support related to halal industries
These services are designed to streamline and comprehensively support Japanese businesses seeking to obtain halal certification.
【Background and Objectives】
Japan’s exports to OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) member countries, where halal products are widely required, continue to grow. At the same time, increasing numbers of inbound tourists and foreign residents have raised domestic demand for halal-certified products. As interest among Japanese companies in exporting to halal-requiring markets or investing directly in such regions continues to rise, the need for halal certification services in Japan has expanded significantly. Although halal certification services are already available in Japan, existing capacity has been insufficient to meet rising demand.
By establishing LPPOM-YANO Halal Solution with LPPOM—an internationally recognized halal inspection body with strong credentials—the aim is to support the globalization of Japanese products and services, promote export expansion, and contribute to meeting the increasing global halal demand, including in Japan and Indonesia.
(Note: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation consists of 57 member states and regions.)
Partnership History and Significance
Yano Research Institute has partnered with LPPOM MUI (now LPPOM) since 2014, providing seminars, training, publications, consulting, and research services related to halal certification to Japanese companies. With the establishment of this joint halal certification organization with LPPOM, we are now able to provide halal certification services in Japan, enabling us to offer comprehensive, one-stop support for businesses seeking halal certification.
LPPOM, with 36 years of experience, is a globally recognized Indonesian halal inspection body that has provided halal evaluation services to more than 77,000 companies across 70 countries. It holds ISO 19001:2018 certification and became the first halal inspection body in the world to obtain ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for information security management—demonstrating its commitment to world-class quality and reliability. Through this official partnership with Yano Research Institute, LPPOM-branded halal conformity assessment services will be expanded in Japan, supporting businesses aiming to enter Indonesia and other OIC halal markets, as well as domestic foodservice and related industries seeking to strengthen their halal compliance.

Indonesia’s current halal certification framework involves three bodies:
- BPJPH (government body issuing halal certificates)
- LPH (halal inspection bodies)
- MUI and other halal fatwa committees (issuing halal rulings)
LPPOM is a government-recognized LPH authorized by BPJPH and conducts halal audits for numerous domestic and overseas factories. Its halal conformity assessment services are trusted internationally and are based on ISO/IEC 17065:2012. Products audited by LPPOM are widely recognized not only in Indonesia but also in global markets, contributing to worldwide halal supply expansion.
