Information Session for Businesses on the Regulations in Major Countries in Relation to Insect Export

“Information Session for Businesses on the Regulations in Major Countries in Relation to Insect Export” will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023.

[Overview of the seminar]

The insect market has been identified as an important field of research and development in the “Farm to Fork Strategy” published by the European Commission. According to the report of “Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations” (FAO), “Edible Insects,” by 2050 the world will host 9 billion people, and edible insects could be a promising alternative for the conventional food and feed that could solve the global food issues.

In Japan, companies engaged in businesses related to insects are trying to expand their businesses, and startups are accelerating commercialization of insect products. However, the information on insect market trends, various regulations, etc. is not enough, and new business developments in overseas markets have not progressed well enough.

In this seminar, the actual situation of regulations on insects for foods and feeds and on feeding insects will be explained, mainly focusing on the EU that has been taking the lead in the formation of rules to promote the insect businesses.
