Market Overview

The domestic homeware market, spanning six segments, reached an estimated 3,149,800 million yen in 2024, which is 0.9% increase over the previous year. While most categories saw growth, this was primarily inflation-driven, as price hikes pushed sales values higher despite a decline in the bedding segment. Interior fabrics (103.7%YoY) and loungewear (101.3% YoY) were the top-performing categories.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead to 2025, the market is projected to contract to 3,109,400 million yen (98.7% YoY) as persistent inflation and stagnant wages dampen consumer demand. A market recovery will likely require improved price stability for essentials and a meaningful rise in real wages to restore consumer purchasing power.
