In response to Green Growth Strategy through Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050 by the Japanese government, municipalities that proclaim to realize "Zero Carbon City (net zero CO2 emissions by 2050)" are increasing (990 municipalities as of 29 Sep. 2023), showing high momentum for achieving carbon neutrality among municipalities. As a key to realize zero carbon cities, promotions for renewable energy deployment are in progress, with some municipalities having stepped forward to mandate the deployment. Through the questionnaire on zero carbon city to municipalities and the interviews to companies that cooperate with such municipalities, this report highlights the challenges and perspectives on regional efforts for decarbonization
