WHATS Seminar Vol. 174 [Online] “Current Status and Future Prospects of Energy Policies toward Achieving Regional Carbon Neutrality”

WHATS Seminar Vol. 174 [Online] “Current Status and Future Prospects of Energy Policies toward Achieving Regional Carbon Neutrality” will be held online on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

[Seminar Overview]

Approximately three and a half years have passed since the Japanese government announced the goal of “achieving carbon neutrality by 2050” in October 2020. The number of prefectures and municipalities that have declared themselves to achieve “zero-carbon cities” (local governments with substantially zero CO2 emissions by 2050) has increased to 1,078 as of March 29, 2024. In addition to measures to promote the introduction of renewable energies, regions that are taking the lead are considering and implementing measures to use and utilize hydrogen energy and develop measures cooperating with private companies, with a view to achieving carbon neutrality for heat and power sources.

In this seminar, trends in energy policies that are the key to achieving regional carbon neutrality will be explained and analyzed based on information provided in the research on zero-carbon cities and the hydrogen energy market conducted by Yano Research Institute, Ltd. in FY2023.

1. Overview of “Zero-Carbon Cities” to Promote the Use of Renewable Energy

2. Trends in Regional Use of Hydrogen Energy

3. Trends and Future Prospects of Cooperation between Regions and Businesses to Achieve Carbon Neutrality
