The domestic CAD/CAM/CAE systems market for FY2019 sold well, increased by 5.2% from the previous fiscal year to have achieved 395,800 million yen based on the shipment values at system manufacturers. While the companies marked an all-time high profit, main factor of growth is the increase of capital investment in manufacturing industry. Although the consumption tax hike since October 2019 curbed consumer spending, the amount of corporate capital investment remained at high level.

Most of the CAD/CAM/CAE systems in Japan are still on premise. Nonetheless, it is for sure that migration to new platform using cloud systems and virtualization technologies will proceed rapidly hereafter. Responses to COVID-19 crisis are accelerating this trend.
Due to the spread of novel coronavirus pandemic, market situation has changed drastically in FY2020. The CAD/CAM/CAE system market size for FY2020 is projected to attain 408,100 million yen, up 3.1% from the previous fiscal year, based on shipment values at manufacturers. Because capital investments for FY2020 were already decided and implemented before the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the market is likely to sustain positive growth despite some slowdowns.
Decline in profits and decrease in the amount of capital investments stricken by COVID-19 is likely to impact the market in FY2021.
